Sanmina’s Newisys Division Announces The EDA-4605, 240TB Ethernet Drive Array

Ultra-Efficient 60 Bay Ethernet-Direct Storage Array Uses Seagate’s New Kinetic Open Storage Platform to Optimize Cloud and Big Data Deployments

SAN JOSE, Calif., December 5, 2013 – Newisys, a division of Sanmina Corporation (Nasdaq: SANM) and a leading provider of data center products for enterprise and cloud applications, today announced the EDA-4605, a dense (60 Ethernet-direct Disk Drives in a 4 RU configuration) array using Seagate’s new, innovative Kinetic Open Storage platform. This new system delivers scale-out storage solutions efficiently and with high reliability. The EDA-4605 features two redundant and hot-swappable Ethernet switch and management modules, with a total of four 10Gb ethernet ports, and has redundant hot-swappable power and fan units.

“Newisys has a strong track record as an industry leader, providing innovative storage solutions to a broad range of markets. We are proud to have Newisys be one of the first storage server companies to announce products incorporating Seagate’s Kinetic Open Storage Ethernet drives into their systems,” said Ali Fenn, Seagate’s senior director of Advanced Storage technology. “Newisys’ extensive experience deploying multi-petabyte installations that incorporate Seagate hard drive and solid state drive technology, coupled with our newly announced Kinetic platform will deliver industry-leading reliability, simplicity and efficiency.”

The Seagate Kinetic Open Storage platform eliminates the storage server tier of traditional data center architectures by enabling applications to speak directly to the storage device. This reduces expenses associated with the acquisition, deployment and support of traditional storage solutions. Companies realize maximum storage density, while achieving cost savings based on reduced power and cooling costs, and a simplified storage implementation.
